Big River Cleanup

Yesterday CTLP and I went down to the Big River cleanup in West Greenwich. Big River has to be one of the most abused of the RI state lands. We met up with the rest of the mountain bikers, and split up into three teams. About 12-15 of us spent most of the day at one area where there was an abandoned mobile home. Seems it had been used as a dump by the guy living next door. The home had collapsed and was full of old tires. Also, two abandoned cars, a boat, two riding lawnmowers, four push mowers, and about six or so auto gas tanks. Here are couple pictures midway through the cleanup.

We filled the truck a few times with tires and scrap metal, making dumpster run after dumpster run. While we were there, Juan, the RI Water Resources Board Head Honcho came by to check out what we were doing. He seemed pumped by our enthusiasm and how much we were accomplishing. We only left the mobile home carcass, the two abandoned cars, and the old boat. Everything else got pulled out of there.

After a long day here is CTLP resting on top of Mount Rotten Tires:

It started raining right as we were heading up to the Big River Inn for some cheeseburgers.

Hmmm Cheeseburgers....
